Anthony Braxton Discography By Francesco Martinelli

Anthony Braxton was 23 years old when in 1968 he recorded a historic double Lp of solo saxophone music. Braxton went on to become famous as a virtuoso not just on the alto saxophone but also on an unusually wide range of reed instruments, from the soprano sax to the contrabass clarinet.  At the beginning of the Seventies he collaborated briefly and intensely with many highly influential groups: Creative Construction Company, Circle and Musica Electronica Viva; later his group released a series of groundbreaking albums, which redefined the sound of the jazz quartet, and then he went on to release a three-record set of completely notated music for four orchestras.  This was a serious challenge to the jazz establishment and as a result, survival for himself and his family become difficult.
